Yonas Girma
Case Information & Details
Yonas Girma has been associated with two significant criminal proceedings in the UK.
2020 Murder Trial (Stephen Morrisson case):
Yonas Girma, identified as 28 years old at the time of charging and later 29, was charged with the murder of Stephen Morrisson, who was fatally stabbed in Epping, Essex, on June 23, 2020. Morrisson, a 30-year-old social media content creator, sustained a single stab wound after a confrontation in a car park during a music video shoot. He later died in hospital.
Girma, of Hounslow Road, Hanworth, was arrested in Feltham, West London, on July 8, 2025, and subsequently charged with murder. He made his first court appearance at Southend Magistrates' Court on July 9, 2025. Along with co-defendant Ellis Heather, Girma appeared at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) and denied the charge. A provisional trial date was set for May 18, 2026.
During the trial at the Old Bailey in May 2026, it was heard that Morrisson had disrupted the music video shoot, irritating the filming crew. A witness testified to seeing Girma "hit first" during the confrontation. However, on June 24, 2026, a jury at the Old Bailey found Ellis Heather guilty of murder and cleared Yonas Girma of wrongdoing.
2018 Violent Disorder Conviction:
In an earlier case, Yonas Girma was sentenced in June 2018 for conspiracy to commit violent disorder. At the age of 21, he was part of the rap group 1011, whose members pleaded guilty to arming themselves with machetes, knives, and baseball bats in November 2017, planning a suspected revenge attack on a rival gang. Girma was sentenced to over three years in a secure unit.
