Megan Murphy
Case Information & Details
A UK individual named Megan Murphy has recently been involved in a significant criminal case, resulting in a prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.
Key Facts, Dates, and Court Decisions:
Megan Murphy, 26, from Ince, Wigan, was sentenced to six years imprisonment at Bolton Crown Court on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. She pleaded guilty to causing the death of Darryl Tomlinson by dangerous driving.
The fatal incident occurred on Thursday, January 9, 2025, shortly before 6:00 AM. Murphy was driving her car with heavily frozen windows, which severely restricted her visibility. She reversed from an alleyway onto Pembroke Road in Wigan, a one-way street, and proceeded to drive against the direction of traffic.
Darryl Tomlinson, 31, had collapsed in the road hours earlier. Despite witnesses attempting to warn Murphy by shouting and sounding their car horns, she drove over Mr. Tomlinson. She then reversed back over him and drove forward again, causing the front wheel of her vehicle to pass over him a third time, trapping him beneath the car.
During the incident, Murphy reportedly phoned a friend and referred to Mr. Tomlinson as a "smackhead." Police and paramedics were alerted, but Mr. Tomlinson was pronounced dead at approximately 6:21 AM. CCTV footage also revealed that Murphy had driven the wrong way down the same road on two previous occasions in the days leading up to the collision.
In addition to the six-year prison sentence, Megan Murphy was also banned from driving for eight years.
Other Legal Proceedings:
Separately, a different individual named Megan Murphy, a paralegal, was disqualified from working in the legal profession in June 2024. This disqualification, under section 99 of the Legal Services Act 2007, was due to misconduct where she discontinued a client's holiday sickness claim without their consent or knowledge, and subsequently misled both the client and her firm about the matter.
