Earlier Drug Offenses (2023):
In June 2023, Matas Sukaitis, then 18 years old and from Corby, was found guilty of supplying Class A and B drugs. He received a two-year jail sentence, which was suspended for two years. This conviction was part of a larger case involving two other men, George Pavlou and Dalston Phillips, who received much longer sentences for drug and firearms offenses. During the investigation, cocaine and heroin wraps with Sukaitis's fingerprints were found, along with a large quantity of cash and drugs worth over £30,000. Phones seized in the investigation showed texts offering drugs for sale, with some lines sending up to 140 messages daily.
Attempted Murder and Related Charges (2025-2026):
Matas Sukaitis, aged 21, was convicted of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and possession of a knife in a public place following a month-long trial at Northampton Crown Court. The jury delivered a majority verdict on July 2, 2026, after more than 10 hours of deliberation.
The charges stem from an incident on April 11, 2025, in Hazel Wood, Corby. Sukaitis approached a 17-year-old boy and a friend, pulled out a black handgun, and shot the teenager in the back as he tried to flee. After the victim collapsed, Sukaitis stood over him and attempted to shoot him in the head at point-blank range, but the firearm jammed twice. Sukaitis then produced a knife, stabbed the teenager twice in the leg, and kicked him in the face before fleeing. The victim required surgery for a shattered vertebra and perforated bowel, as well as stitches for stab wounds and treatment for facial bruising.
During the investigation, Sukaitis was identified as operating the "Frankie" drug line, supplying crack cocaine and heroin in Corby. He had previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs in connection with this case. Three days after the attack, Sukaitis surrendered to the police but was later released on bail. He was subsequently detained at Gatwick Airport while attempting to travel to Norway and was charged a month later.
Matas Sukaitis, formerly of Chaucer Close in Corby, is scheduled to be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on September 18, 2026. Judge Crane, who presided over the trial, warned that he faces an "extremely lengthy custodial sentence."
