Marcus Jones of Bishop Auckland has been involved in significant criminal proceedings in the UK. He was sentenced to 45 months in prison on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Durham Crown Court.

The charges against him stemmed from an incident on Boxing Day of the previous year (December 26, 2025), where he attacked a female colleague in a staff toilet at her workplace in Bishop Auckland. Jones followed the victim into the toilet, attacked her, and attempted to strangle her. The victim managed to escape and raise the alarm.

Jones, who was 22 years old at the time of sentencing, was charged with false imprisonment, intentional strangulation, attempted sexual assault, and assault by beating. Although he initially pleaded not guilty to some charges, he later changed his pleas to guilty at Durham Crown Court.

The court heard that the attack appeared to be premeditated, as Jones had condoms with him and had made online searches for "rape, lust fantasy," and set alarm reminders such as "rape tomorrow." This was his first offense. In addition to the prison sentence, Jones was subjected to restraining orders preventing him from contacting the victim or visiting the store for ten years, and he is required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
