Liam Bassett (Robbery Case)
In March 2025, a 23-year-old Liam Bassett, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court for robbery. He appeared via video link from HMP Liverpool. The court heard that on February 9, the victim, who had recently moved to Warrington and was trying to make friends, met a woman he knew as 'Tia'. Bassett and another woman later joined them. The group took the victim to various places, asking him to buy them food and alcohol, and then to order an Uber to 'Tia's' house. Later, in Sankey Valley Park, Bassett threatened the victim, saying, "Give me your f*g money or I'll stab you," and "It's not worth losing your life over." The victim, initially unsure if Bassett was joking, became serious when he saw Bassett's right hand held behind his back. 'Tia' also demanded the victim's wallet, from which Bassett took £170 in cash. Bassett then told the victim to "f**k off or I'll stab you." Bassett was later found by police at Warrington bus station with £74.03 on him. The victim's impact statement highlighted that the stolen money was for a house deposit and the crime left him feeling fearful and vulnerable. Bassett had 12 previous offenses, including battery and possession of a bladed article, which his defense attributed to alcohol issues.
Liam Christopher Bassett (Rape and Assault Case)
Liam Christopher Bassett, aged 28 and from Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after being found guilty of two charges of rape, assault by beating, and two further offenses following a trial. He received a prison sentence of nine years and nine months. The victim, known to Bassett, testified that he had been physically violent towards her, including punching her in the face, and had forced himself upon her on multiple occasions when she refused to have sex with him. Detectives praised the victim's bravery in reporting the abuse and supporting the investigation.
An earlier record from June 2016 shows a "Liam Christopher Bassett aged 18 of Wimborne Road, Bournemouth," admitting to several offenses at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court. These included having bolt croppers in connection with theft on March 14, 2016, assisting in the retention, removal, and disposal of a stolen mountain bike valued at £400 on January 17, 2016, and interfering with a motor vehicle with the intention of theft on September 30, 2015. He also admitted to breaching a conditional discharge for handling stolen goods. He received a community order with a two-month curfew and a rehabilitation activity requirement. Given the age progression and location, it is highly probable that this is the same individual.
Additionally, a "Liam Bassett" had a hearing scheduled at Bournemouth Combined Court on June 15, 2026, for case reference U20260217, which was a Magistrates' Court hearing. Another "Liam Bassett" had a plea hearing scheduled at Sheffield Magistrates' Court and Family Court on June 10, 2026. It is likely the Bournemouth Combined Court appearance relates to the same Liam Christopher Bassett involved in the rape and assault case.
