In September 2022, John Mongan, then 54 years old and from Hackney, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to nine years in prison. He was convicted of six counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, two counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming. Mongan created a fake Facebook profile between May and August 2020 to contact six girls he believed were aged 12-14, sending graphic messages and photos.
