A 35-year-old Iranian refugee named Hossein Mahmoudi was recently convicted in a London court for attempting to sexually assault a woman. The incident occurred in December 2024, when Mahmoudi followed the woman for approximately three miles from Whitechapel to Stratford as she was returning home from a Christmas party. He pursued her for about an hour, including boarding the same bus, before attacking her on a side street. The attack was thwarted within 27 seconds due to the intervention of a cyclist.
The case was heard at Snaresbrook Crown Court. During the trial, Mahmoudi attempted to evade the charges by claiming that he had a penis too small for sexual intercourse and suffered from severe obesity, which he argued prevented him from committing a sexual assault. However, a specialist urologist, Dr. George Fowles, testified that Mahmoudi's sexual organ was in a normal condition. Mahmoudi also admitted to browsing pornography websites the day before the attack, which he claimed was to improve his English language skills. An email related to his application to donate sperm was also revealed in court.
Prosecutor Christian Moll informed the court that Mahmoudi had left Iran in 2014 and illegally entered several European countries before arriving in Britain. It was also revealed that he had previously been sentenced to 10 months in prison for driving a small boat carrying migrants to Britain. Furthermore, he had five prior convictions in Germany for assaults and criminal damage, and there had been police complaints about him following a woman with her dog.
Mahmoudi denied charges of rape and attempted rape. His sentence for the attempted sexual assault conviction is expected to be announced in July 2026.
