Dominik Szymanski
Case Information & Details
A man named Dominik Szymanski has been convicted and sentenced in the UK for rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, along with a guilty plea for theft. The 47-year-old met his victim in Swansea city centre on September 2, 2025, and took her back to his flat where the crimes occurred. He raped and assaulted her, then dragged her out of the property half-naked and "hurled" her into a lift. He also kept the victim's dog and arranged to sell it.
Szymanski denied the rape and assault charges, claiming no sexual activity took place due to his inability to maintain an erection. However, he was convicted by a jury after a 10-day trial at Swansea Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to theft one week into the trial.
At his sentencing hearing in June 2026, Szymanski was given an extended 16-year sentence as a dangerous offender, comprising 12 years in custody followed by a four-year licence period. He must serve two-thirds of the custodial sentence before being eligible to apply for release, with the Parole Board determining his safety for release. He will also be a registered sex offender for life.
The court heard that the victim gave evidence during the trial and was cross-examined. Tragically, she was found dead the day after giving her testimony. An inquest is yet to establish the cause of death, but the victim's mother stated her belief that Szymanski's actions led her daughter back to drugs and ultimately to her death.
Szymanski has previous convictions for battery and criminal damage, including an assault on a former partner and an assault on a police officer.
It is important to note that a separate individual named Mariusz Szymanski was involved in a case in Jersey, where he was found not criminally responsible for damaging phone and media masts due to a psychotic episode. This case is distinct from that of Dominik Szymanski.
